Today I was struck by an article in the New Yorker, written by Jane Mayer, that details the ways in which the US government conspired to put the worst possible spin on John Walker Lindh's actions. The government attorney who tried to maintain some honesty in the process -- she's a 30-something Yale law grad -- now finds herself not only out of a job with the government, but placed on administrative leave at her newly acquired private sector job. This last because the government informed them that she was under criminal investigation. So much for whistle-blowing! And so much for the integrity of our democratic processes.
