This morning began with my being pulled over by a policeman at the airport, who had clocked me going 18 over the speed limit. I was rushing to get Eric there, because he had misread his boarding pass, but that's no excuse. Then it turns out I have an out of date insurance card in the car. Sigh. I know our insurance is paid up, but I must not have put the proper form in the dashboard. Later on my mother and her husband were in town for a funeral, so they stopped by with some of their friends for lunch. That was ok, I just picked up some take out from our local Whole Foods store. But then I proceeded to let myself get drawn into a political argument with the men in the room. I don't know why I always fall for it, but I do. I need to remind myself -- ask them questions, wonder at their answers, don't get polemical! But all too easily I start defending an idea, a candidate, whatever. Sigh again. The day has just been topped off by a plugged toilet. We once vowed we would never buy a house with only one toilet in it, but we did. And three years later we still haven't added one. So whenever the toilet gets plugged, we have a major problem. This time my handy spouse wasn't around to fix it. Double sigh again. I think I've gotten it working, but I'm crossing my fingers. I have to keep reminding myself that having ready access to fresh water is a huge privilege, which this experience makes only too clear.
