Beauty and justice
I went to a powerful lecture last night, given by
Michelle Gonzalez, that centered on her exploration of Sor Juana as a theologian (found in her recent book on the topic,
Sor Juana: Beauty and justice in the Americas). Much of the presentation swirled around
Sor Juana's theological work with the transcendentals of beauty, good, and truth. There is clearly something enormously important brewing amongst the theologians who work on these issues. Michelle is one of them, as are
Roberto Goizueta and
Alejandro Garcia-Rivera. But theologians are, to a certain extent, only exploring art. Poets and painters are creating it. So thanks this morning also to
Adán Medrano for pointing me to a poem by
Meribel Ledesma.
