One of the things President Bush neglected to point out last night is that "ownership" does not necessarily confer control (does an ordinary stockholder have any control over what the company does?) nor does it eliminate the risks that come from ownership. While social security, on the other hand, is a program that in fact exists to provide SECURITY, that protects Americans from the vagaries of a stock market, and that spreads the risk over ALL of us.
