Faith formation in community at home

There's been a major rethinking about how religious education best happens, with much emphasis for children being placed on faith formation that happens at home, led by primary caregivers. In the Catholic context that includes programs like "whole community catechesis" and in the Lutheran context that includes the work of the Youth and Family institute, with their variety of resources.

Today I was reading a short article in the NYTimes about peer ministry on campuses, and was caught by a similar idea -- that of identifying young people with particular gifts and energy for sharing their faith and inviting people into faith practices, and naming them as peer ministers in dorms. This makes so much sense to me, and it's interesting to see the NYTimes pick up on it.
