Photovoice...
Thanks to
TheCorner for this link to the
BorderFilmProject, a group that gives disposable cameras to people illegally crossing the border, and the "Minuteman" group trying to stop them. It reminds me of the photovoice collaborative project that
Brinton Lykes, one of the scholars on my dissertation committee works with. That in turn sent me to the net to find a link, which brought me to
this wonderful site which is a collection of photovoice projects from around the world (including the
KidswithCameras project which was documented in the film Born Into Brothels). I think
Ryan was right, in class yesterday, when he talked about the power of still photography to evoke empathy. It's a very simple -- but very powerful -- mechanism.
