More women priests

Twelve more women are ordained today in the Roman Catholic church, albeit through a process the hierarchy argues is illicit. May God bless their vocations, and may communities of faith support them. I bet my mother-in-law Dagmar is there -- in prayer at least, if not actually in person. There's a nice piece up at Salon.com about them, too. Posted by hessma at July 31, 2006 10:00 AM

Women-Church Convergence just put out a good press release (with an explicit and implicit caution about what's important here and where to put the focus), which I am now going to attempt to paste here...

Women-Church Celebrates Feminist Ministries

The Women-Church Convergence promotes Catholic feminist ministries that stand in sharp contrast to the hierarchical-style of the Roman Catholic Church. The ordinations scheduled for July 31, 2006 on the Three Rivers in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area, like the ones that took place recently in Switzerland and Canada, provide an opportunity to reflect on and actualize new models of ministry that are collegial, democratic and participatory, privileging no one and inviting all to serve.

We lift up our colleague Bridget Mary Meehan who will be ordained on the boat on the Three Rivers. She lives out her feminist ministerial commitment through social justice work and creative media, including her cable television show, God-Talk. She engages in prayer and worship with a base community in Northern Virginia and is one of the co-coordinators of the Convergence.

Women-Church Convergence, a coalition of thirty-three Catholic women’s organizations, is committed to bringing about a discipleship of equals which expresses Christ/Sophia’s intention for creation. It is in this spirit that we celebrate the ministry of our sisters.
