Hiroshima and Nagasaki

We were in our local parish for liturgy yesterday morning (despite our frustrations, we're staying present in the community), and were surprised -- in a very pleasant way (because lately the sermons have been remarkable for their lack of relevance) -- when the visiting priest began his homily by remarking that it was the anniversary of the dropping of the nuclear bomb on Hiroshima. This is an anniversary we all must grieve, and we all must search for ways to NEVER REPEAT IT.

I think that in the middle of the way on Iraq, the war in Lebanon, the war in Afghanistan, the war in.... well, you know what I mean. In the middle of all of that, we may tend to forget that the use of nuclear weapons is still a huge risk we face. In fact, probably more of a risk now than ever before, given that tactical nukes are so much easier for individuals to get a hold of.
